On April 20, the Chinese Embassy in Indonesia, together with the Confucius Institute at Al-Azhar University, celebrated the International Chinese Language Day at Al-Azhar University. Lu Kang, Chinese Ambassador to Indonesia , Asep Saefuddin, President of Al-Azhar University , Fasli Jalal, President of University Yarsi , Niu Haitao and Feri Ansori, the Chinese and Indonesia Director of the Confucius Institute at Al-Azhar University , attended the ceremony.  

Ambassador Lu Kang spoke highly of the outstanding achievements in teaching Chinese language in Indonesia and expressed his high respect and sincere gratitude to all friends from Indonesian society who are committed to promoting Chinese language and culture. Ambassador Lu said that Chinese language has become a bridge for China-Indonesia friendship and greater understanding and amity between the two peoples. He hoped that more Indonesian friends will love and learn Chinese, and know more about China through the Chinese language.  

President Asep said that the Confucius Institute at Al-Azhar University has made great achievements since its inception 10 years ago. It has helped not only Al-Azhar University improve the quality of Chinese language lessons, but also Chinese language classes to all regions in Indonesia.  

During the event, students from Al-Azhar University performed talent shows with prominent Chinese features, including chorus, Tai Chi, Guzheng, Peking Opera and modern dance. The students' wonderful performances lit up the atmosphere and received repeated applause.  

After the event, Ambassador Lu Kang visited the Chinese Library and the Confucius Institute at Al-Azhar University and learned about their operation in details. Ambassador Lu Kang congratulated the Confucius Institute on its efforts and achievements in actively teaching Chinese language and holding various Chinese cultural activities over the years. He wished the Confucius Institute at Al-Azhar University a better future.
