From November 8 to 9, the Women’s International Club Jakarta (WIC) held the 54th Annual Charity Bazaar, participated by nearly 40 Embassies in Indonesia and hundreds of companies. Madame Iriana Joko Widodo, wife of President Joko Widodo, declared the event open. H.E. Ambassador Lu Kang and Madame Chen Yue attended the opening ceremony upon invitation. The Chinese Embassy in Indonesia set up a booth at the Charity Bazaar.
Madame Iriana came to the Chinese booth after the opening ceremony. Ambassador Lu Kang and Madame Chen Yue introduced goods with distinct Chinese features. Madame Iriana expressed appreciation to the Chinese Embassy for its contribution to the Charity Bazaar and to Indonesian charity, and recalled her visit to China last month. Madame Iriana and her entourage bought round fan with Chinese embroidery, tea set, panda doll among others.
During the event, women diplomats from the Chinese Embassy performed a Chinese classical dance Lotus Light in the Cultural Program.
The Charity Bazaar saw visitors flooding in. The Chinese booth had a backdrop themed Chinese Modernization, decorated with natioanal flags and traditional red lanterns. Various goods and Chinese food made by Embassy’s chef were popular among locals and diplomats.
The income the Chinese Embassy has got in the Charity Bazaar will be donated to WIC to support social welfare and education in Indonesia.
