On 3 April 2024, the Embassy of China in Indonesia and Muhammadiyah (MU), the second largest Islamic organization in Indonesia, held a joint Iftar and Ramadan care package donation event at the Muhammadiyah University of Jakarta (UMJ). Minister Zhou Kan, Chargé d'Affaires a.i. of the Embassy, Prof. Dr. Abdul Mu’ti , Secretary General of MU, and Prof. Dr. Ma’mun Murod, Rector of UMJ, attended the event.

In his speech, Mr. Zhou Kan extended Ramadan greetings to Indonesian Muslims and briefly introduced the visit of Indonesian President-elect Prabowo Subianto to China, saying that H.E. Prabowo's choice of China as the first country to visit as President-elect fully reflects the high level of China-Indonesia relations. During the successful visit, President Xi Jinping met H.E. Prabowo and they reached important consensus on bilateral relations. President Xi stressed that China-Indonesia relations has entered a new stage of building a community with a shared future. China views its relations with Indonesia from a strategic and long-term perspective, and is willing to deepen all-round strategic cooperation with Indonesia. China will work with Indonesia to build a China-Indonesia community with a shared future that has regional and global influence. H.E. Prabowo said that he supports the development of a closer relationship with China, and will continue the country's friendly policy toward China and implement the important consensus of building a community of shared future between the two countries. It is believed that under the joint leadership of the leaders of the two sides, China-Indonesia relations can make further progress, bring more benefits to the peoples of the two countries and inject more positive energy into the international community.

On the Palestinian issue, which is of great concern to all walks of life in Indonesia, Mr Zhou Kan said that during H.E. Prabowo's visit to China, he specifically expressed his high appreciation for China's consistent upholding of fairness and justice on the Palestinian issue. Last week, the UN Security Council adopted a resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza during Ramadan by a vote of 14 in favour, with only the United States abstaining. This resolution is binding, and China urges all parties concerned to implement it immediately. Regrettably, however, the ceasefire has not yet been implemented and the Palestinian people are still suffering. According to statistics, tens of thousands of people have died in Palestine since October last year, including more than 10,000 children. I’ve read a sad news story in which a reporter asked a Palestinian child in Gaza, "What is your dream when you grow up?" The child, who was only 10 years old, replied: "I don't know, because we don't live to grow up in Palestine. The child's calm expression suggested that he had accepted his cruel fate. But their fate should not be predetermined, imposed or ignored, and the international community has a responsibility and a duty to change it. Like children in China, Indonesia and other parts of the world, the children of Palestine should have the right to grow up, live in peace and happiness, and have their own independent and full state. To this end, China, together with Indonesia, is willing to continue to make unremitting efforts to promote a ceasefire in Gaza as soon as possible and to achieve a comprehensive, just and lasting solution to the Palestinian issue at an early date.

During the event, Mr. Zhou Kan, together with Mr. Mu’ti and Mr. Murod, presented Ramadan care packages to representatives of Muslim students.
