On February 13, Ambassador Wang Lutong was invited to attend the "Harmony and Sustainability" event held at Taman Safari Bogor. Senior officials from the Ministry of Forestry, General Manager of Taman Safari Bogor, local Chinese communities, and multiple Indonesian media outlets were present.
Ambassador Wang stated in his remarks that pandas have always been called China’s “goodwill ambassadors”. The two pandas “Caitao” and “Huchun” arrived at Indonesia in September of 2017, making Indonesia the 16th country to collaborate with China on panda-related research. In the past years, the two pandas have been grown healthily and happily in Taman Safari Bogor, bringing joy to the Indonesian people and strengthening the emotional bond between the two nations. The two countries conduct scientific research on panda breeding while working together to protect wildlife and biodiversity. This year marks the 75th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between China and Indonesia. It is hoped that the two countries will continue to deepen cultural exchanges to inject new vitality into China-Indonesia comprehensive strategic partnership.
During the event, Ambassador Wang named the newly born endangered Owa Jawa cub "Yoyo" (a homonym for "友友" in Mandarin), symbolizing deep friendship between China and Indonesia.
