Chinese Embassy Hosts Reception to Celebrate 75th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations Between China and Indonesia

On the evening of April 17, the Chinese Embassy in Indonesia hosted a grand reception to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Indonesia. Nearly 1,000 guests, included high-ranking Indonesian officials such as H.E. Ahmad Muzani, Speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly, H.E. Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, H.E. Rosan Roeslani, Minister for Investment and Downstream Industry, H.E. Widiyanti Putri Wardhana, Minister for Tourism, H.E. Yassierli, Minister for Manpower, H.E. Muhammad Iftitah Sulaiman Suryanagara,Minister for Transmigration, H.E. Sahat Manaor Panggabean,Head of Indonesian Quarantine Authority, H.E. Utut Adianto, Chairman of Commission I of DPR, H.E. Kyai Haji Yahya Cholil Staquf, Chairman of the Executive Council of Nahdlatul Ulama, as well as Ambassadors and Representatives of the Diplomatic Corps in Indonesia, representatives of Chinese enterprises, Chinese language teachers, and overseas Chinese attended the reception. Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono delivered remarks via video.

In his remarks, Ambassador Wang Lutong stated that China and Indonesia are good neighbors and good partners. Over the 75 years, we’ve weathered storms together and witnessed the fruits of our joint efforts. Our relationship has thrived through changing times, and that’s mainly because of several key factors: strategic guidance of our two leaders, deepening mutual trust and strengthening strategic foundation; pursuing mutual benefit and unlocking new development dynamism; bringing people closer and building lasting friendship. Cultural exchanges are bridges that span different civilizations; sharing a common destiny and shouldering major country responsibilities. Looking ahead, China is ready to make the 75th anniversary a new starting point, to work with Indonesia to enhance strategic coordination, expand practical cooperation, promote people-to-people exchanges, and enhance multilateral collaboration for common development, for international justice, and for human progress, and jointly open up a brand-new chapter in our shared future.

Ambassador Wang said, some country, driven by self-interest, use tariffs as a weapon to pursue private gains, blatantly violating WTO rules, undermining the rules-based multilateral trading system, and destabilizing the global economic order. China is ready to stand with Indonesia to firmly safeguard our legitimate rights and interests, and those of the international community. China will act on the common vision of a peaceful, safe and secure, prosperous, beautiful and amicable home, foster an amicable, secure and prosperous neighborhood, follow the policy and principle featuring amity, sincerity, mutual benefit and inclusiveness as well as a shared future for humanity, take the Asian values of peace, cooperation, openness and inclusiveness as the fundamental guidance, use high-quality Belt and Road cooperation as the main platform, and pursue the model of security for Asia that features sharing weal and woe, seeking common ground while shelving differences, and prioritizing dialogue and consultation as the strategic support, so as to jointly build a community with a shared future with neighboring countries including Indonesia.

Speaker Ahmad Muzani warmly congratulated the 75th anniversary of China-Indonesia diplomatic relations, noting that the foundation of this relationship was laid by the older generation of leaders of the two countries. China and Indonesia are important partners. China-Indonesia relationship is one of Indonesia’s most important bilateral relationship. The two Heads of States have agreed to deepen our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Indonesia is committed to strengthening cooperation with China based on mutual respect and equality, fostering shared prosperity and bringing greater well-being for both peoples.

Foreign Minister Sugiono stated that the China-Indonesia partnership is built on trust and common interests, emphasizing comprehensive cooperation, promoting regional stability, "Global South" development, and addressing 21st-century challenges. "When brothers are of the same mind, they can cut through metal". Indonesia is ready to enhance comprehensive strategic cooperation with China on the milestone of 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations.

The reception began with renditions of the Indonesian and Chinese national anthems by an Indonesian children’s choir. Performances of Chinese and Indonesian songs, traditional music, and tea art demonstrations drew enthusiastic applause. An exhibition showcasing China-Indonesia economic and trade achievements also attracted attendees. Indonesian dignitaries and guests exchanged views on the progress and promising future of bilateral relations, fostering a warm and celebratory atmosphere.
