Work Together toward the China-Indonesia Community with A Shared Future of Regional and Global Influence
H.E. Wang Lutong, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to the Republic of Indonesia
At the invitation of the Indonesian Government, H.E. Mr. Li Qiang, Premier of the State Council of China, will pay an official visit to Indonesia. This is the first visit to Indonesia by Chinese Premier since the new Indonesian Government took office, and the first stop of his first overseas visit this year. It coincides with the 75th Anniversary of the diplomatic ties between the two countries. It is of great significance to inject new impetus into the bilateral relations. During the visit, Premier Li Qiang will meet with President Prabowo Subianto, attend commercial events, and talk to business communities of both countries.
China and Indonesia are important neighbors to each other. China always regards Indonesia as a partner in development and practical cooperation. Over the past 75 years, our bilateral relations and cooperation have maintained vigorous momentum with remarkable achievements. Under the strategic guidance of our two Presidents, both sides have reached important consensus on building the China–Indonesia community with a shared future of regional and global influence, and delivering the ''five-pillar" cooperation covering political, economic, people-to-people, maritime, and security fields. The first ministerial meeting of the China-Indonesia Foreign and Defense Ministers’ (2+2) Dialogue was held successfully last April. It is the first 2+2 dialogue mechanism established by China, opening up a new chapter for strategic mutual trust and security cooperation between the two countries. Frequent high-level exchanges and improving dialogue mechanisms provide a solid underpinning for the sound and steady development of our bilateral ties.
Practical cooperation has yielded fruitful results. Two-way trade exceeded USD 147.8 billion last year, marking a 6.1% growth. For 12 consecutive years, China has been Indonesia’s largest trading partner. With our joint efforts, high-quality Belt and Road cooperation have been carried out with more substantive progress. Whoosh, the flagship project of the Belt and Road Initiative, has carried over 9 million passengers. It just set a milestone on 10th May, with the new record of sending more than 25,000 passengers in a single day. The recent inauguration of Batang Special Economic Zone (KEK) will inject new momentum into the Two Countries, Twin Parks. The outcomes of major flagship projects and livelihood programs have delivered for the people and boosted the modernization of both countries. Close people-to-people exchanges have unleashed potential for cooperation in education, tourism, technology, bringing renewed vitality and greater public support for mutual learning.
China and Indonesia are major developing countries and emerging economies. As the largest economy in ASEAN, member state of G20 and BRICS, Indonesia plays an important role in regional and international affairs. The cooperation between China and Indonesia, is not only crucial to our two peoples, but also of great significance that goes beyond the bilateral scope, for shaping regional and global governance. Driven by the Belt and Road Initiative, China and Indonesia work together to promote a deep synergy between the Chinese modernization and the Indonesia 2045 Emas based on the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. The building of the China-Indonesia community with a shared future of regional and global influence has set a fine example for cooperation between China and ASEAN countries, and will also inject new impetus into world peace and development.
This year marks the 80th Anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, the 80th Anniversary of the founding of the United Nations, and the 70th Anniversary of the Bandung Conference. In the past, our two countries have always supported each other in the pursuit of national independence and development, stood side by side in the struggle against imperialism and hegemonism. The world is undergoing transformation unseen in a century, facing severe impact of unilateralism, protectionism and hegemonism. Amid the US global trade war and headwinds against economic globalization, China and Indonesia, as major developing countries and important members of the Global South, must work together to safeguard the multilateral trading system with the World Trade Organization at its core and defend international fairness and justice. China is ready to work with Indonesia to jointly carry forward the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence and the Bandung Spirit, and continue to serve as a pacesetter for mutual trust and assistance, an engine for the modernization of developing countries, and a promoter of openness, inclusiveness and win-win cooperation, sending the strongest message of greater strength through unity among the Global South.
China is ready to take Premier Li Qiang's visit as an important opportunity to join hands with Indonesia to implement the important consensus reached by our two Presidents, forge ahead to establish an exemplary Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, amplify the regional and global influence of the China-Indonesia community with a shared future, and always stay at the forefront of the times in building a community with a shared future for mankind.
