Ambassador Xiao Qian Meets Indonesian Minister of Research Technology and Higher Education, Prof. Mohamad Nasir

On April 5th, H.E. Ambassador Xiao Qian paid a courtesy call to H.E. Prof. Mohamad Nasir, Indonesian Minister of Research Technology and Higher Education (RISTEKDIKTI). The two sides exchanged views on China-Indonesia cooperation on science, technology, innovation and higher education. The meeting is attended by Prof. Ainun Na’im, Secretary General of RISTEKDIKTI, Ir. Hari Purwanto, Minister Advisor, Mrs. Nada Marsudi, Head of Cooperation and Public Communication and Mr. Xie Chengsuo, Head of Science and Technology Affairs of the Chinese Embassy.

As remarked by Ambassador Xiao Qian, under the leadership of President Xi Jinping and President Joko Widodo, the China-Indonesia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership has made remarkable progress, feathering deepening mutual trust, increasing economic cooperation and thriving people-to-people cultural exchanges. In particular, bilateral cooperation in science, technology, innovation and higher education has yielded fruitful results.

Ambassador Xiao pointed out that China’s scientific and technological innovation has made historic achievements in the past five years. The 19th CPC National Congress identified innovation as the primary driving force for development. China will firmly implement innovation-driven development strategy, strengthen basic research and applied technology research, promote the transformation of scientific and technological achievements, and accelerate the building of an innovation-oriented country.

According to Ambassador Xiao, President Joko Widodo attaches great importance to scientific and technological innovation and personally launched the “Making Indonesia 4.0” Roadmap. Indonesia is striving to become a manufacturing powerhouse. China is ready to strengthen cooperation with Indonesia in scientific and technological innovation and higher education, especially relating to “Making Indonesia 4.0”, so as to further progress in bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership.

Minister Nasir extended a warm welcome to Ambassador Xiao, and spoke highly of the recent progress in bilateral science, technology, innovation and higher education cooperation. He expressed the readiness to continuously explore and promote scientific and technological cooperation in key areas, bolster two way personal exchanges and implement bilateral cooperation agreements , so as to deliver more benefits to the peoples.
