2021-11-26 18:31

On November 25, 2021, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held a virtual meeting with Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto.

Wang Yi said, China and Hungary are comprehensive strategic partners. The leaders of the two countries have established solid mutual trust and a good working relationship, providing important and strategic guidance for the sound and stable development of China-Hungary relations. China appreciates Hungary's efforts to overcome the challenges of COVID-19, restore economic growth, and maintain social stability under the leadership of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán. China wishes Hungary will score greater development achievements.

Wang Yi said, China-Hungary practical cooperation has yielded fruitful results. The Hungary section of the Hungary-Serbia railway has made positive progress, and it will inject new impetus for Hungary to explore new land-sea corridor. Hungary takes the lead in carrying out Belt and Road cooperation with China among the European countries, playing an exemplary and leading role. China is willing to work with Hungary to deepen high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, and develop new demonstration projects of mutually beneficial cooperation. China supports its enterprises in investing and doing business in Hungary, and hopes that Hungary will continue to provide convenience and mutual benefit for Chinese enterprises.

Wang Yi said, China and Hungary have always respected, trusted and helped each other, setting a fine example of win-win cooperation between countries with different systems. China appreciates and thanks Hungary for upholding justice on international and multilateral occasions. Hungary's acts not only maintain respective legitimate rights and interests, but also safeguard the basic principles of international relations, uphold the principle of non-interference in other's internal affairs enshrined in the UN Charter, and defend international fairness and justice. China also firmly supports Hungary in safeguarding its independence, sovereignty and dignity, and works with Hungary to uphold world peace and defend multilateralism.

Wang Yi expressed his solemn position on Lithuania's act of allowing the Taiwan authorities to set up a so-called "Representative Office". Wang Yi emphasized, Lithuania insists on taking wrong steps and violates its own commitments, first allows the Taiwan authorities to set up a "Representative Office" among the countries establishing diplomatic ties with China, blatantly creates "one China, one Taiwan" on the international stage, and blatantly launches the political provocation against China, which has set a bad precedent. Lithuania's act seriously violates its commitments when it established diplomatic relations with China, and severely violates the one-China principle. China resolutely safeguards its national sovereignty and territorial integrity, and stands resolutely against any act of creating "two Chinas" or "one China, one Taiwan".

Szijjarto said, Hungary and China have a traditional friendship. Hungary's cooperation with China is supported by the Hungarian people. No external force can impact and change Hungary's friendly policy towards China. Hungary firmly upholds the one-China policy, respects China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and firmly supports China's legitimate stance.

Szijjarto said, in recent years, bilateral practical cooperation is progressing smoothly. The Hungary section of the Hungary-Serbia railway has started successfully. Hungary has full confidence in and high expectations for the operation of the modern railway in Hungary. Hungary welcomes Chinese enterprises to expand investment in Hungary, which will significantly facilitate Hungary's economic development. Hungary holds that vaccines should be used to save lives instead of playing with a political declaration. Chinese vaccines play a significant role in supporting Hungary's fight against the pandemic, and Hungary is willing to actively share its experience in using Chinese vaccines. Hungary longs for and will actively participate in the Beijing Olympic Winter Games, and it opposes disturbing sports by using ideology and political issues.

The two sides also had an exchange of views on China-Europe relations. Wang Yi said, China appreciates Hungary's friendly policy and reasonable and pragmatic attitude towards China on China-Europe relations, which is in line with the overall interest of the EU and the common interests of all countries. China and Europe are partners, not opponents, and have far more consensus than differences. Both sides support the development of a multipolar world and the democracy in international relations, follow multilateralism, stay committed to upholding the authority of the United Nations, and advocate resolving international and regional hotspot issues through political means. It serves the common interests of both China and Europe to leverage complementary strengths and deliver win-win cooperation. Both sides should work together to remove disturbances, overcome difficulties, and secure the sound and stable development of China-Europe relations.

Szijjarto said, Hungary firmly supports the progress of China-Europe relations, and it will continue to actively participate in CEEC-China cooperation, and play a constructive role in developing Europe-China relations featuring mutual respect.
