The First Meeting of the Joint Steering Committee for the Development of Regional Comprehensive Economic Corridors between China and Indonesia Yields Success

On 21st March, the 1st meeting of the Joint Steering Committee for the Development of Regional Comprehensive Economic Corridors (Corridors) between China and Indonesia was held successfully in Bali, Indonesia. The meeting was co-hosted by Vice Chairman of the National Development and Reform Commission of China (NDRC) Ning Jizhe and Deputy Minister of the Coordinating Ministry of Maritime Affairs of Indonesia(CMMA) Ridwan Djamaluddin. From the Chinese side, Chinese Ambassador to Indonesia Xiao Qian, Chairman of China Development Bank (CDB) Zhao Huan, Chinese Consular-General in Denpasar Gou Haodong and representatives from Chinese Foreign Ministry, Ministry of Commerce, Development and Reform Commission of Zhejiang Province, China Ex-im Bank, China International Engineering Consulting Corporation attended the meeting. From the Indonesian side, BAPPENAS Deputy Minister Wismana Adi, Governor of North Kalimantan Irianto Lambrie, Governor of Bali I Wayan Koster, DCM of Indonesian Embassy in Beijing Listyowati, and representatives from Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Transportation, Ministry of Industry, BKPM attended the meeting.

Vice Chairman Ning Jizhe and Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs of Indonesia Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan made opening remarks respectively. They were also briefed by Joint Working Group of planning and project cooperation, and exchanged views on jointly building the Belt and Road, capacity cooperation, planning of the Corridors, key sea-port cooperation and industrial park cooperation. Positive consensus were reached. Vice Chairman Ning Jizhe and Deputy Minister of Ridwan Djamaluddin signed minutes after the meeting.

In May 2018, when Chinese Premier Likeqiang visited Indonesia, NDRC of China and CMMA of Indonesia signed the MOU On the Development of Regional Comprehensive Economic Corridors, officially launching cooperation on building Corridors. During Coordinating Minister Luhut’s visit to China in October 2018, the two sides signed the MOU On Establishing A Joint Steering Committee for the Development of Regional Comprehensive Economic Corridors, thus establishing the mechanism for cooperation.
