President Joko Widodo of Indonesia Meets with Yang Jiechi

On May 9, 2016 local time, President Joko Widodo of Indonesia met in Jakarta with State Councilor Yang Jiechi.

Yang Jiechi firstly conveyed President Xi Jinping's message to Joko Widodo. President Xi Jinping expressed that he attaches importance to developing China-Indonesia relations, and is delighted to see that since his meeting with Joko Widodo last November, the construction of Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway has been initiated and cooperation in such fields as production capacity, finance has yielded substantial progress. The 5th meeting of China-Indonesia dialogue mechanism at deputy prime minister level has yielded remarkable result, and both sides have reached a series of important consensus on cooperation in politics and security. It is believed that the 2nd meeting of China-Indonesia High-level Economic Dialogue this time will be a complete success as well. It fully shows that as major developing countries and comprehensive strategic partners, the two countries are highly integrated in each other's interests, and enjoy a promising future in strategy alignment. China will continue to firmly support Indonesia's efforts in economic development and state construction.

Yang Jiechi expressed that China is willing to, together with Indonesia, implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, strengthen the docking of strategies, enhance cooperation in defense, anti-terrorism, law enforcement, internet security and maritime affairs, actively promote the cooperation in production capacity and infrastructure, participate in the construction of Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway Economic Corridor, and deepen cooperation in such fields as agriculture and fishery industry, aerospace, finance and investment, so as to assist Indonesia in its economic development and benefit the two peoples.

Joko Widodo expressed that he is very pleased to receive the message from President Xi Jinping, and asked Yang Jiechi to convey his warm greetings to President Xi Jinping. He looks forward to attending the G20 Summit in Hangzhou this September and meeting with President Xi Jinping again. China is one of the most important economic and trade partners of Indonesia. Indonesia stands ready to strengthen contact and communication as well as the docking of strategies with China, and promote cooperation in a wide range of fields including trade, infrastructure construction, electric power, agriculture and fishery industry as well as finance.

On the same day, Yang Jiechi also met with Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Luhut Panjaitan of Indonesia.
