At a press conference on Beijing's control and treatment efforts on Friday afternoon, Pang Xinghuo, Deputy Director of the Beijing Center for Disease Prevention and Control, noted that the highly contagious COVID-19 is rampaging across the world, even as the spread of the virus nationwide has been effectively stemmed. The number of cases worldwide has exceeded one million, with sporadic cases still reported in China. Beijing faces immense pressure to prevent both case import and domestic resurgence.

Pang cautioned the public against going to epidemic-affected countries or regions for travel or work unless absolutely necessary, as such trips carry risks of infection both abroad and during flight. Pang said that as many as 13 confirmed cases were identified on one flight. Given the high risk of infection, air travelers must wear masks throughout the entire trips back home.

Between 00:00 and 24:00, 3 April, the following were newly reported by the 31 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps:

a) 19 confirmed cases (18 imported, and 1 local case in Hubei);

b) 4 fatal cases (all in Hubei);

c) 11 suspected cases (all imported);

d) 180 cured and discharged cases;

e) 2,346 close contacts released from medical observation; and

f) 48 fewer severe cases.

As of 24:00, 3 April, 698 imported cases (including 17 severe cases) are still under treatment and 114 suspected cases pending test results. In total, 888 imported cases have been confirmed, 190 cases cured and discharged, and no fatal case reported.

As of 24:00, 3 April, the following had been reported by the 31 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps:

a) 1,562 confirmed cases (including 331 severe cases) still under treatment;

b) 114 suspected cases pending test results;

c) 81,639 confirmed cases;

d) 76,751 cured and discharged cases;

e) 3,326 fatal cases; and

f) 712,088 close contacts traced (including 18,286 still under medical observation).

Between 00:00 and 24:00, 3 April, the following were newly reported by Hubei:

a) 1 confirmed case (in Wuhan);

b) 150 cured and discharged cases (all in Wuhan);

c) 4 fatal cases (all in Wuhan); and

d) no suspected case (Wuhan included).

As of 24:00, 3 April, Hubei had reported:

a) 834 confirmed cases still under treatment (including 830 in Wuhan);

b) 303 severe cases still under treatment (including 300 in Wuhan);

c) 63,762 cured and discharged cases (including 46,611 in Wuhan);

d) 3,207 fatal cases (including 2,567 in Wuhan);

e) 67,803 confirmed cases (including 50,008 in Wuhan); and

f) no suspected case pending test result (Wuhan included).

Between 00:00 and 24:00, 3 April, the following were newly reported by the 31 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps:

a) 64 asymptomatic cases (26 imported);

b) 3 asymptomatic cases which developed into confirmed ones (2 imported);

c) 58 asymptomatic cases released from medical observation (6 imported); and

d) 1,030 asymptomatic cases still under medical observation (239 imported).

As of 24:00, 3 April, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan had altogether reported 1,236 confirmed cases:

a) 845 in the Hong Kong SAR (including 173 discharged cases and 4 fatal cases);

b) 43 in the Macao SAR (including 10 discharged cases); and

c) 348 in the Taiwan region (including 50 discharged cases and 5 fatal cases).
