2020-06-10 10:19

From June 1st to 3rd, the second batch of medical supplies donated by the Chinese government to Indonesia arrived in Jakarta in a series of flights. On the afternoon of June 5th, the two sides held a handover ceremony at the Indonesian National Disaster Management Agency(BNPB). Ambassador Xiao Qian and Mr. Harmensyah, Secretary-General of BNPB delivered a speech and signed the handover certificate at the event. Santo Darmosumarto, Director for East Asian and Pacific Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Mr. Wang Liping, Economic and Commercial Minister Counsellor, attended the ceremony.

In his remarks, Ambassador Xiao said that China and Indonesia have made concerted efforts in combating COVID-19 since its outbreak. When China was in its hardest times of fighting against coronavirus, the Indonesian government and various sectors of society have rendered valuable support. China has also been paying close attention to the situation of COVID-19 in Indonesia and has been providing firm support. The total value of donations by Chinese central and local governments as well as enterprises has exceeded $10 million US dollars. This time, China has once again come to Indonesia’s aid by donating additional 100,000 test kits, 70,000 PPEs, 70,000 protective masks, and 1.3 million surgical masks. It is hoped that these medical supplies will make a contribution to Indonesia’s early victory over the pandemic.

In his remarks, Secretary-General Harmensyah appreciated the donation made by China on behalf of the Indonesian government and people. He said that Indonesia still faces an uphill battle against the pandemic, and the valuable and timely support rendered by China has made a great difference to Indonesian government and people in its fight against the coronavirus. This year marks the 70th anniversary of China-Indonesia diplomatic relations, and the joint fight against COVID-19 once again manifested the long-lasting friendship between the two countries. It is believed that the government and people of the two countries will continue to fight hand-in-hand and overcome the pandemic at an early date.
