On September 19, Ambassador Wang Lutong was invited to attend a talk show titled "Navigating Global Challenges and Strengthening Cooperation within BRICS and the Global South", co-hosted by Indonesia’s renowned media group Tempo Media Group and the financial data platform IDN Financials.com. Ambassador Wang delivered a keynote speech during the event. The ambassadors of Russia, India, and South Africa to Indonesia were also invited to participate.

Ambassador Wang Lutong pointed out in his speech that, President Xi Jinping put forth the Global Governance Initiative at the "Shanghai Cooperation Organization Plus" meeting recently, emphasizing five points of the initiative's core concepts: "adhering to sovereign equality", "abiding by international rule of law", "practicing multilateralism", "advocating the people-centered approach" and "focusing on taking real actions". This important initiative is consistent with the purposes and principles of the UN Charter. It points in the right direction and offers practical pathways for the reform and improvement of the global governance system, injecting strong momentum into building a more just and equitable global governance system and advancing toward a community with a shared future for humanity.

The hallmark of our era is the prominent, growing strength of the Global South. BRICS countries account for nearly half of the world’s population and about 30 percent of the global economy, standing at the forefront of the Global South. In light of the current situation, BRICS should uphold independence, act with a sense of responsibility, and strive to be the pioneering force in advancing global governance reform. We should stay true to our original aspiration and uphold justice, pool our strength to promote development and deepen mutual learning and promote harmony in diversity.

China and Indonesia are friendly neighbors across the sea, both major countries of the Global South. Looking ahead, China is ready to take Indonesia’s accession to BRICS as an opportunity to work with Indonesia to expand and strengthen the greater BRICS Cooperation, so that the driving force of the Global South will be stronger and more vibrant, and together we can write a new chapter of cooperation.

Ambassador Wang Lutong also engaged warmly with the audience, sharing information on China-Indonesia relations and other relevant topics.
