Chinese Navy Task Formation 989 Pays Friendly Visit to Indonesia

On the morning of December 7, Chinese Navy Task  Formation 989, currently engaged in a comprehensive far-sea training mission, arrived at Tanjung Priok Port in Jakarta, Indonesia, beginning a four-day goodwill visit to the country. Over 400 people welcomed the fleet at the dock, including diplomats from the Chinese Embassy in Indonesia and the Chinese Diplomatic Mission to ASEAN, representatives from Chinese enterprises, Chinese students studying in Indonesia, Chinese Indonesian and local overseas Chinese, and representatives from the Indonesian Navy.

During the visit, the task formation commander will pay a courtesy call on the Commander of the Indonesian Navy’s Third Regional Command. The task formation will host ship-open-to-public events and deck reception. Sailors from both navies will participate in sports exchanges, and Chinese naval cadets will also conduct cultural exchange and educational activities.

Task formation 989 consists of the amphibious transport dock ship Chang Bai Shan, the long-range training ship Zheng He, and the large comprehensive training vessel "Xiang Qian Jin 1" . The fleet carries more than 2,100 personnel, including naval officers, cadets and sailors. This marks the first visit of both the Chang Bai Shan and "Xiang Qian Jin 1" to Indonesia.
