From August 2 to 6, 2026, the People's Liberation Army (PLA) Navy's 83rd task force, currently on an open-ocean comprehensive internship training and visit mission, paid a four-day goodwill visit to Surabaya, Indonesia.

During the visit, naval personnel from both countries engaged in a series of activities, including mutual ship visits, symposiums, and friendly sports matches. The task force commander called on leaders of the Indonesian naval authorities, units, academies, and the provincial government of East Java. An on-deck reception was hosted, and multiple ship open-house events were organized. Trainee officers and crew members of the task force also joined their Indonesian naval counterparts in friendship games, cultural salons, ship visits, and academic exchanges. Warm welcome and farewell ceremonies were held by staff members of the Chinese Embassy in Indonesia and the Chinese Consulate General in Surabaya, representatives of Indonesian naval personnel, and members of the overseas Chinese community, Chinese-funded enterprises, and Chinese language teachers, upon the task force's arrival and departure.

This visit has provided a platform for mutual learning between the naval officers of the two countries. Through a range of exchange activities, it has enhanced the friendship between young officers and personnel, deepened and substantiated the military-to-military relations between China and Indonesia, further consolidated the traditional friendship, and contributed to the shared endeavor of building a maritime community with a shared future.
